Red coloring on tongue
My Sister Sushma is 39 years old and is mentally challenged since birth. She get regular seizures ( once or twice a week) which last for a couple of minutes and then she is fine.she has been on Dilantin tablets since last couple of years as advised by a neurologist. She has recently encountered a problem of inflammation of tongue where in she is not able to eat food well. It is so bad at times that she is almost in tears while having food. She cannot have rice at all because of the inflammation. Please suggest. Photos attached.

Hi. This is glossitis. It is secondary to vitamin deficiency and anemia caused due to Anti-seizure medications. Dilantin is more known to cause them.
Next Steps
Cap Myelogen Forte is a good vitamin supplement. She can apply ointment Quadrajel to reduce the pain. Your physician can recommend blood tests to rule out anemia.
Health Tips
Lot of newer medications have come with lesser adverse effects have come. Your neurologist will be able you advise you more on this.
