My daughter 5.5 months old. she sucks her thumb finger. why? what can do abt it? during sleep if i tak it out of mouth she cries a lot. she put all her fingers in mouth. she is not hungry. i kept engaging her but still she put her fingers in mouth.

Mouthing is common during first year of life.by 1 yr of life try to keep his hands occupied by other activities.it usually decreases as child starts playing and will usually decrease significantly by 2 yrs of age.so there is no need to worry just keep his hands clean as if the environment of child is not clean enough then mouthing will increase during teething and then the child might have loose stools.
Next Steps
if child is developing nicely then putting fingers in mouth will decrease by 2 yrs of age.
