Pregnancy symptoms
Hello doctors My wife had the early symptoms of pregnancy - missed 1 period , feeling of swelling (especially face and hands), feeling more hungry , emotional sensation etc. we did a USG 2 weeks back and it came out negative and the doc suggested for a tablet to get periods. We did not go for the tablets yet and my wife continues to feel the sensation. Please suggest if a USG can go wrong. USG was done post her missed period duration. If it can go wrong what steps do we need to take to confirm if she is pregnant.

Hi there. Ultrasound can detect pregnancy at 5-6weeks of missed periods. Before that it's of no use. It's very reliable investigation to confirm pregnancy as the embryo/fetus can be visualized. Usg can be false positive or false negative depending on the apparatus condition, frequency of waves used, and importantly capability of person performing usg to visualize the sac. another accurate test is blood test for hcg levels which can detect pregnancy early by 3weeks only. If you want confirmation of whether pregnant or not then get it done. Symptoms you have mentioned could be caused by other diseases even like gastritis, anemia.
