Hello there..... at 31 years people do suffer from Chondromalacia Patella CP (more common in females though). Firstly is it a confirmed diagnosis that it is CP only and not any other knee joint problem To be firm on your diagnosis do you get Anterior/front side of the knee pain when you tighten your quadraceps muscle n putting preassure on your knee cap.... if thats the case then CP is more or less certain. Now the Good news about CP is it can be completely recovered.... its just a mechanical fault in the tracking of patella(knee cap) You get pains in CP bcos the underlying cartiledge of patella rubs on femoral (thigh bone) surface n erodes it.... basically you need to approach this problem in 2 ways... 1-pain relief 2-strength of Quadraceps, hamstrings and calf muscle For pain you can pop in OTC pain killers and can have sessions of TENS current therapy ...also Icing rather than heat would be of benefit to you Once the pain becomes minimal you can start isometric knee exercises...which you have been doing... you can do static quadraceps and static hamstrings for both the knees... now after 6 months your aim should be to hold the static contraction of knees to more seconds n repititions should also increase. One thing i would advise you is to stop the weight thing ...for the time being....instead do closed chain kinematic exercises like ... Cross trainer or static cycle (with bearable resistance) you can increse RPM.... Also free kicking in a swimming pool would be of great benefit. Also avoid cross leg sitting or general chair or sofa sitting for long period of time(take short walks in betwn long hours of sitting) Wear patellar knee cap when going out. Forget about weights n start doing the above exercises n you should be considerably better in 3 weeks time. Take care

Hello dear Actually chondromalacia patellae is a diagnosis, but underlying cause of this condition is necessary. Eg. Malalignment of patella, VMO weakness, excessive tight iliotibial band, etc. Isometric knee exercises does not involve using weights. Send me pic of ur knee from front and sides... and then i will advise u accordingly...
