Pain below the ankle
I've been having acute pain below my ankle bone and above the arch of my foot. It is most acute when I wake up in the morning and gets better within 3 hrs of waking & is almost gone during the day. Walking in the morning is painful. On pressing the area below the ankle I can feel pain, but there is no inflammation or swelling. There is no pain in the heel or arch. I haven't had any ankle twist or sprain in the recent past. What could this pain be?

These structures tighten overnight, so the first few steps stretch them suddenly, causing sharp pain that eases as the tendon warms up the absence of swelling trauma, heel pain or arch pain makes fracture or plantar fasciitis less likely prolonged standing flat feet improper footwear or recent increase in walking can trigger this even without an obvious injury. using supportive footwear immediately on waking avoiding barefoot walking in the morning gentle ankle movements before getting out of bed, and activity modification usually help if pain persists beyond a few weeks or starts swelling or worsening an ultrasound or MRI may be needed to rule out tendon inflammation or a small stress injury
