Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
My husband is suffering from OCD. It is becoming very difficult for me to understand his behavior. The treatment is going on in the form of counselling sessions & medicines but no changes. I want to know that is this disorder lifelong ?? As i read that with proper treatment things can be controlled but if medicines are stopped this becomes worse.

Fear of contamination, excess hand washing, checking, anxiety and irritability are some of the features of OCD. It is advisable to go to a psychiatrist for proper assessment and diagnosis. They will be able to assess him properly and treat accordingly. Without going to a psychiatrist it is not possible to confirm the diagnosis or start any treatment. Consult a psychiatrist at the earliest. The best treatment is a combination of medication and behavioral therapy.
Next Steps
Medication does take some time to show effects so be patient and don't give up treatment. If medication is stopped before achieving some recovery or resolution of symptoms, it is likely that his symptoms will worsen. Do not make any changes or discontinue his medication. It is anticipated that with medication and counseling he will improve. You may contact me for further management if required.
