Neck pain and hand numbness
Hi Doctor, My husband is sufferring from neck pain and hand numbness for a month now. He started having this issue after a weightlifting workout. We are from Chennai, but visited my father in Madurai when he was sick. At that time we visited an ortho doctor in Madurai and he diagnosed this as something related to cervical spine and suggested to do some neck and shoulder exercises. Its been 3 weeks now and we don't see any improvement. The pain is manageable but we are concerned that it is not recovering faster. Please provide your thoughts.

Cervical pain and numbness in hand is usually due to cervical radiculopathy caused by nerve compression in the neck (cervical spine). When associated with tingling numbness in the hands a detailed evaluation and examination is required to know the level of compression of the affected nerve and its severity. Following which it is clinically correlated with MRI findings. Physiotherapy does help if its a minor compression however if severe then need appropriate intervention to prevent further deterioration. Kindly consult a Spine Surgeon for the same.
Next Steps
You can consult with me on practo / or take an appointment for further management.
Health Tips
Do not lift heavy weights over head and maintain good posture if having desk work.
