Hello, It is very nice to see your concern for a friend suffering from mental health issues. Such social support will go a long way in helping your friend overcome these problems. The first step to helping her would be to get a confirmatory diagnosis by visiting a competent and experienced psychiatrist. The psychiatrist will take a detailed history, interview your friend, and carry out some psychological investigation. Some blood related investigation like thyroid, haemoglobin etc may be done depending on clinical presentation. Thereafter a comprehensive plan of management can be formulated. The best approach to management of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is combination of medication and psychological intervention. However the approach can be tailored as per individual needs and preferences. The management of BPD is a long term process and it is quite difficult to comment on exact treatment duration before assessment of the person. This would depend on several variables like severity of BPD, co-morbid mental health issues, social support, participation of patient into therapy process etc. Hope this helps you... Wish you and your friend best of health and future..
Next Steps
Please consult with a psychiatrist near you for assessment and a comprehensive management subsequently.
Health Tips
di not delay consultation and treatment process. The outcome will be better if you start at an early age..
