Hi, my son has cmpa with reducing substance of 0.5 in his stool as of 30th June reports. His stools are still greenish and he was under the prescribed medicines of taximo drops 1 mL 3 times 5 days and now on still under protectis 5 drops for 21 days once a day as well as uno biotics junior 2 times for 5 days still giving. He is only on breast milk supply.
Please let me know how long will it take for his infection to get normal? Should we go to gastroenterologist paediatrician? Thank you

Hello, I understand your concern
CMPA (Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy) can sometimes lead to prolonged changes in stool consistency and color, especially when the gut is still healing. The greenish stools and presence of reducing substances indicate ongoing mild gut irritation or transient lactose malabsorption, which is not uncommon in CMPA.
Since your child is on breast milk and avoiding cow’s milk protein, that’s appropriate. Antibiotics like Taximo (cefixime) and probiotics like Protectis and Uno Biotics Junior help restore gut balance, but complete resolution may take a few weeks.
Next Steps
Continue current medications as advised.
Monitor weight gain, feeding pattern, and activity level—these are more important indicators of recovery than stool color alone.
Repeat stool test for reducing substances only if symptoms persist beyond 3–4 weeks.
If there is blood in stools, poor weight gain, or persistent diarrhea, consult your pediatrician or consider a pediatric gastroenterologist referral.
Health Tips
Avoid dairy in the mother’s diet as well, if advised for CMPA management.
Ensure proper hand hygiene to prevent reinfections.
No need to worry if baby is active, feeding well, and gaining weight—stool normalization takes time.

Hi
CMPA is an allergic condition and less likely to get better with antibiotics. As from the information I can see that he is on probiotics and still his stools are not getting better. In this case as a first step, we can make some dietary change (baby and mother as he is on only breast feeds) and see if he is getting better. But I would like to know about his age and weight, more details about his stools and any other previous illness.
Such cases are seen by paediatricians. A cow milk protein allergy is not treated by Taxim O though. In fact the probiotic effect will be lost if they are given at same time as Cefixime and reducing symptoms will persists as will the symptoms
It is important to know more details as to what led to the diagnosis of cmpa. We will need to go step wise then, even eliminating cow milk and dairy from mother’s diet ( and supplementing her with calcium and vitamin d) since the baby is on breast feeds.
How is the weight gain and what are her symptoms? More details are required with a proper consultation for all this
