I am 29 years old and married for 2.5 years. Since last one and a half years I have almost lost my sex drive. I need to know which doctor to consult to first ? A gynaecologist or some other specialist doctors

Dear Ma'am,
Thank you for your query regarding loss of libido.
There are many causes of loss of libido in females.
1. Functional: Socio-cultural issues, lack of time and lethargy, recent childbirth and breastfeeding, Stressful job, less free time with partner, fear of pregnancy, etc.
2. Organic:
Local genital conditions leading to painful intercourse.
Repaired perineal wounds causing secondary dyspareunia.
Chronic conditions: Hypothyroidism, anemia, rheumatoid disorders, chronic infections
Endocrinopathies
Drugs and other chronic medications.
At the outset, first you with your partner need to establish a good communication to identify as couple if any domestic issues need to be worked out, possibly a vacation together would be a good idea. Achieving a normal BMI 20-24 and regular physical exercise would also help.
Then it would be wise to consult a Gynaecologist first who would direct you towards ruling out an organic cause by doing a local examination and directing you towards a relevant Specialist.
Regards,
Aditi.
