Loose-motions with Stomach pain
My daughter, 3.5 years old and approximately 12 kg, has been suffering from diarrhea since Wednesday. We visited the pediatrician earlier. Initially, her stools were watery and green in color. On Thursday, they remained watery and green. By Friday, the stool became slightly solid and yellowish. However, since last night, the stool has again turned green and watery. Today morning she had a blood in the stool. The doctor mentioned that it will take some time to settle, but I am concerned about why the stool is turning green again.

Hello, I understand your concern Green stools usually occur when stools move too fast through the intestine, so bile doesn’t get enough time to turn brown. This is common in diarrhea and is not harmful by itself. Since loose-motions have been going on for a few days, it may take some time for the gut to settle. However, the presence of blood in stool needs re-evaluation, as it may suggest a bacterial infection, anal fissure, or worsening gut irritation. Your pediatrician may decide on a stool test and whether antibiotics are needed — don’t start antibiotics on your own.
Next Steps
Ensure good hydration — ORS frequently in small sips (about 100–150 ml after each loose stool). Continue normal home diet (rice, curd, banana, dal, idli, khichdi). Avoid juices, sodas, junk food. Zinc syrup if advised earlier — usually helps gut recovery. Track urine output, activity, number of loose stools.
Health Tips
Red flags: Blood in stool repeats or increases High fever, severe tummy pain, vomiting everything Child looks very dull, irritable, or not drinking well No urine for 6–8 hours Signs of dehydration (dry mouth, sunken eyes)
