I got a dental implant crown a month ago and it was loose from the day my dentist has put the crown. Yesterday when I met him, he took the crown out and unfortunately the implant also came out. He said we need to do bone grafting. What can be the reason the implant came out? Was the implant not done properly? He has provided a false tooth cap now and asked to wait for 2 months to start the grafting. I'm scared to get it done.

kindly have a CBCT (Cone Beam CT scan)scan done before the procedure to know the available bone.

Me being an Implantologist i am more than happy to help u if u like to have a consultation
Hi,this may be due to un-natural occlusal forces on the crown, this could be due to habit of bruxism, smoking, uncontrolled sugar level. Already infected implant i.e. peri-implantiis or ill fitting crown may be a reason. Putting graft and waiting for 4-6 months and then get it done again seems to be the only choice now.
Next Steps
Better to to look into the causative factor and try to upgrade your implant and crown quality as well.
Mostly the reason of implant being loose is either there was no proper Anchorage of implant at the time of placement or due to perimplantitis which means inflammation/infection around the implant.
If u have habit of smoking then u need to quit it for some time after placement of implant. Smoking is another reason. Get checked for your blood sugar also..
Another common reason is less bone or resorption of bone around the implant.
Next Steps
get one blood sugar test and serum calcium level test done. if everything is normal then simple bone grafting and replacing the implant will be the treatment
Many causes for failure of implant. Gum infection around it or as it seems in your case insufficient bone support in the area. All areas are not suitable for implants or may require a different kind of implant according to the bone support and space available. Wrong choice of implant can also lead to implant failure.
Health Tips
As the implant has already failed once you should approach cautiously and consult a good implantologist. You can contact our Clinic or any other good implantologist near your place.
