Liver panel test: Elevated results
I had a liver panel test last week.My alt level was 122 and ast was 56.Rest other levels were normal ...I took test in morning 8 a.m. with little over 3.5 hours sleep that night . I had a 1 mild beer around 36 hours ago of the test .I would like to know if less sleep before test can elevate these levels? This was my first LFT test in life which I took casually. Please reply me ,I am bit worried. Also my cholesterol turn out to be 242 and triglycerides was 211.

Hi Single beer doesn't hamper ur liver function test, if u take alcohol on regular basis only it affects.. So best thing is get a usg abdomen to look for any fatty liver as ur cholesterol + triglycerides are elevated, this can help you

It is likely that the beer has elevated the liver function levels by a fraction, but it is more likely that they're elevated even if you redo the test. Your cholesterol levels are elevated and would require medical correction but you can go for lifestyle changes and check the readings again after a month, if still elevated you will require medications. Here's a few steps to deal with your condition: - Exercise regularly(Preferably High Intensity Interval Training which would be an effective cardio work out) everyday for a minimum of 30 minutes. - Reduce weight and maintain a healthy weight as per your BMI as per your BMI currently you're overweight. - Avoid sugar treats, fatty food, oily/ deep fried food items. - Have food items such as fish(rich in omega 3 fatty acids such as salmon), flax seeds, garlic, foods rich in soluble fiber. - Eliminate trans fats from your diet - Limit your consumption of foods high in saturated fats. For example, substitute olive oil for butter - Avoid/Stop alcohol and smoking if you have the habit.
