Ligament Tear
I have got partial MCL and ACL tear in my knee which happened during a football match. Incident happened in July 2016 and i have undergone physiotherapy sessions for 20 days. According to my MRI impression which is given below is it possible for me to run or get back to my sports after strengthening my muscles or is surgery needed in my case? On random basis i sometimes feel no strength in my leg or knee. I have skipped physio session for 2 months and then continued. My MRI impression says 1 ) partial tear of proximal fibers of medial collateral ligament with wavy contour of fibers, however most of the fibers are intact. 2) partial tear of postero-inferior tibial attachment fibers of anterior cruciate ligament, however most of fibers are intact. Please suggest appropriate solutions. Thanks in advance.

The injuries to ligaments as per mri scan is partial tears, hence, you should be able to do well with exercise regimen. Focus on hamstring and quadriceps strengthening exercises. Apply moist heat. But since you complain of lack of strength in knee at times, it will be preferable to examine you to identify the amount of laxity / weakness of ligaments that actually is present in your joint, as the ligament fibers have wavy contour, and this may signify a significant weakness of ligament

Hello there,,,,well first and foremost is dont worry or be tensed....actually ACL,MCL injuries are quit common with sports of Football,rugby,volleyball...most of the worlds topmost atheletes suffer from it...what u need to understand is what these 2 structures do to your knees ...well the answer is they provide stability to your knee joint....mostly in my practise i have seen that partial tear of ACL requires no surgery and with aggressive sports oriented protocol the person can return to sports within 20-24 weeks.(this depends on the physic, diet, motivation of the athlete as well) along with certain supplementation. However in your case even the MCL are torn which is comparitively a rare occourance and explains why u r rehab is not very successful.
Next Steps
Get hold of a Sports and musculoskelteal physio who actually deals with sports injuries or a sports medicine expert to discuss your case for if at all surgical repair is required or a tailor made rehab for you..you can resort back to me regarding any queries.
Health Tips
wear a patellar hole knee cap for the timebeing. Regards & Take care.

Since you want to run again and return to Sports, consider the option of Autologous Chrondocyte Implantation or PRPs for repairing the torn portions of ACL and MCL. Following that procedure you should do the intensive knee rehab strengthening both Quadriceps and Hamstrings muscles. You will do well.
Next Steps
Please consult an Orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in Sports injuries and does Arthroscopic ACI and PRPs.

Start strengthening exercises again, do it in a regular basis until you feel complete stability in your knee, take the help of any experienced Sports physiotherapist, muscles tend to loose strength if not used, and that too very fast Post injuries

Hello, You can jog and play for sure as it is not a complete tear but one is for sure that your ligament is partially torned and will stay the same so for now exercise is like food to your knee If you will exercise you are all fine and if you don't for few days or month then again weak
Next Steps
So do your physio for few days and then you can start with your gym for good strengthening but under supervision so that you don't harm your knee and exercise for your leg at least 2-3 times a week
Health Tips
Keep exercising and you can't avoid them to stay fit

A partial tear - - hinge knee brace for now 6weeks - guarded movements - physiotherapy - strengthening exercise - avoid sports 2-3 months - use knee cap afterwards - gradual return to light exercise n sports after that - any rush or hurry will land to early arthritis and may need arthroscopic surgery
