How onion helps in hair growth

Many people especially ladies around me in the social club where I go tell me that onion helps in hair growth. Really, is that true? How can onion help in hair growth? I am 44 year old lady and having lot of hairfall. Will eating onion help or applying onion on scalp help?

There are no studies which confirm hair growth with onions. so due to lack of scientific data can't conclude about it efficacy or lack of it
