Root canal is one of the routine procedures that dentist do. I don't see a reason why advice otherwise or postpone. I would not recommend to postpone at all. Because if the tooth structure deteriorate further, and if you cannot restore, there is no point. Saving your natural tooth should always be priority.

RCT is a root canal procedure with a good prognosis and a good success rate. Not all patient who have gone through this procedure have a negative Outcome.Since its  a very reliable and a painless procedure its highly recommended for all , without any hesitation especially to save a tooth without going for extraction of the respective tooth.
Next Steps
The only way you can postpone this procesure is to have regular checkup with your respective dentist and in case you have cavities just go for filling at earliest and avoid spreading of the cavity upto the nerve.

Rct is one of the most successful treatments available in dental field. It has a 93-95%success rate which is more than any other treatment modality. The reason why u got a negative response to it is because...its usually the failures THAT are more highlighted. Also if u donot do the rct...that tooth will have to be removed. And then replaced with a bridge or an implant which have similar success rates but cost more. So its always better to do rct health wise as well as pocket wise. Get it done as soon as possible....coz changes keep happening.
