High Total cholesterol, near normal LDL
Hello all, I'm 28, female with family history of premature CAD. So I take cholesterol test at regular intervals. When I did last time, the total cholesterol was 220, LDL - 130, HDL 42, triglycerides 122, and VLDL 24. This time when I did the test, my total cholesterol was 274, LDL - 135, HDL 44 , VLDL 30 and triglycerides - 149. I want to know why my total cholesterol are high when other values are borderline high. What should I do? Please advise me. Should I start statins?

Total cholesterol includes both good cholesterol and bad cholesterol. Since you have a family history of premature CAD it is advisable for you to have your cholesterol controlled tightly. Diet control weight reduction and active lifestyle will help to an extent. Please check if you have diabetes or thyroid diseases
