Hi, every medicine has a side effect, but we use it because the chance of you getting damage from the side effect is much lesser than the benefit it provides. Hypertension is a disease that can cause damage to the whole body indirectly if it's not treated. So it is better to use anti hypertensive medicine. Only a few types on anti hypertensive drugs cause effects on the kidney. Your doctor will prescribe the most suitable drug for you depending on your situation. Most normal people are on lifelong anti hypertensive therapy and they don't really manifest any harmful effects.
