The appearances may be normal for someone of her age. Please see a Spinal Surgeon and get an assessment done.
Most of these type on injuries are treated with painkillers and mobilisation. It is important to keep moving to maintain the strength of the Spinal muscles. Avoid lifting or moving anything heavy. The pain will take a few weeks to get better.
If she does have a fracture then calcium and vitamin D is useful to maintain bone strength and prevent osteoporosis.

Hello. Your mother needs to see an orthopaedic surgeon soon. It seems she may have a wedge compression fracture of vertebra. If she has lost less than 50% of vertebral height (for that vertebra), and provided she has no neurology- treatment is conservative with regular painkillers for 2-3 weeks, a proton pump inhibitor to prevent gastric side effects of anti-inflammatory meds and a thoractolumbar brace for 4-5 weeks. In addition she will need blood tests for Calcium & Vit D to see if she needs supplements as this is a fragility fracture possibly. Dr M Vashishtha FRCS (dr-MV.com)
