Hair transplant query
I have a few questions regarding hair transplant. 1) Do we need to shave our head completely before going for the procedure? 2) Do existing hairs surrounding the transplanted area get suffered after the transplant? 3) Minoxidil 5% solution is suggested to apply topically to retain existing hairs, does this solution have long term side effects such as Hypertension and Impotence? 4) Can one undergo multiple hair transplantation sessions if he is not satisfied with single session? 5) What may be the side effects of local anesthesia used for the procedure?

1) Complete shaving is not needed but posterior part of scalp is trimmed in FUE method and a strip of hair is cut in FUT method. You can ask more to the hair transplant surgeon, understand both the procedure including the advantages and disadvantages, cost involved and then decide for yourself. 2) Usually not, Most hair transplant surgeon perform it very precisely and surrounding hairs do not get affected 3) Minoxidil is recommended by US-FDA for indefinite usage and such serious side effects are not seen 4) Not multiple but 2-3 transplant session is feasible. It may be a revision surgery or to add more volume. 5) A test dose of local anesthesia can be performed and if no adverse effects are noted further procedure can be done. Local anesthesia can cause all possible complications that you can imagine and same is true for most of the medications but the incidence is very less but can happen.
