My wife is 5.5 months pregnant and has gestational diabetes. Is metformin safe for her and the baby? What can we do to make sure that diabetes goes away after delivery?

Large clinical trials have proven the safety of use of metformin in gestational diabetes. We have been using it for many years now in UK.There is a 40% risk of developing type 2 diabetes following delivery although in majority of the cases diabetes goes away. You may want to consider consulting a well qualified diabetologist with experience in managing gestational diabetes
