Flap Surgery Done
I have had serious teeth irritation and sensations which led to dental flap surgery 2 months back. I consulted 3 doctors before proceeding with the surgery for second opinions. Post surgery, irritation is somewhat relieved but not sensations. Sensations comes across teeths. Although i had minor back neck spasm along with teeth irritation, i did not pay more attention on neck. After the surgery, i still have sensations to cold, hot or spicy items. Difficult to drink even cold/hot water. I have used all types of desensitized gel, mouthwash and toothpastes with no breakthrough. I have noticed that neck spasm happens along with the uneasiness with the teeth. Also i have showed up an orthopedic doctor with an xray thinking this could be from neck/spine. But xray was neat, there is no major irregularities. I am worried as 2 months have already past surgery, and there is no relief yet. Sometimes i wonder if this is aftereffects of surgery. Please advise and help.

hello, according to the description given above, you are suffering from bruxism and therefore neck pain. DO YOU HAVE ACIDITY AND STRESS? if so, get the TMJ checked by a dentist and ask for a night guard. this will relive the muscle spasm. for acidity, do baking soda mouthrinses. also, Colgate Gelcam will give you relief from sensitivity.

Sensitivity in teeth is a common finding after flap surgeries. This occurs due to recession of the gum line post surgery which results in exposure of the second layer of the tooth. This second layer of the tooth has a nerve supply and hence the thermal or chemical changes like hot or cold and sweet or sour are conveyed to the tooth.
Next Steps
please visit a dentist and on his suggestion use a desensitizing tooth paste. that will help bring down the sensitivity.

Neck spasms may not be an after effect of surgery...but since you have lingering sensitivity issues also you may consult a tmj specialist to evaluate any temperomandibular joint disorder...TMD can cause neck spasms and other issues...even though you are having irritation in teeth,it may not be teeth related...
Next Steps
consult tmj specilaist

Hi, Some sensitivity can of course happen after flap surgery but if it is persistent a xray may be taken to rule out decay in the teeth as source of pain might be from the nerve inside the tooth or teeth (as you have mentioned pain is there on drinking hot or cold) .If no cavity is detected in x ray then you can visit a gum specialist (Periodontist) for gum evaluation. There is no connection between neck problem & tooth sensitivity.

Hello, You can experience sensitivity post flap surgery as the gums take up a new position, exposing the root surfaces. You may require desensitizing pastes/mouthwashes or fillings to cover these exposed root surfaces.Regards,Dr Sumanmakam,Dental arts,Jayanagar 5th block,Bangalore.

Hi Neck spasm is not related to teeth sensitivity . Since you have undergone flap surgery , there are high chances that the gums have slightly receded and hence the sensitivity . To get complete relief you should consider getting RCT in associated teeth. Regards

You can't directly correlate between flap surgery and neck spasm.  1-For your sensitive teeth,  we can try from desensitization of teeth (many options),  to.... Root canal treatment.  2- for neck,  consultant a good orthopedic surgeon.
Next Steps
Regular followup with dentist
Health Tips
Use soft tooth brush, proper brushing method,  avoid cold, hot, and acidic food.

Neck spasms can't be side effect of flap surgery. Could be because of the stress you are feeling during teeth pain and sensitivity... For sensitivity you can try laser therapy..
