You dont have to worry if you are not practicing any habits like smoking, chewing tobacco etc, this condition is very common and is present in most of the people. But still you can consult an oral pathologist.

Agree with Dr. Jeetendra and Dr. Rakesh. Worry only if you- 1. Chew tobacco or gutkha. 2. Have spicy food. 3. Chew betel nut.
Next Steps
monitor the area. observe for- 1. progression of the discolouration. 2. decrease in mouth opening. 3. cheeks becoming stiff.
Health Tips
1. watch your habit if you have any. 2. return for check up every 6 months.

Don't worry it's a normal finding, known as LINEA ALBA BUCCALIS, but if you have some ulcerative lesions in these regions then it's an alarming bell. But one has to correlate it with habits of the patient also, like smoking, gutkha chewing etc also see if this is traumatic cheek bite. You can seek the opinion of an oral medicine, oral pathologist or an oral surgeon guy
Next Steps
Don't ignore
Health Tips
Keep a watch If you have some habits leave them and observe

Checks getting pulled in between teeth is common due to negative pressure in the mouth. Forms a fibrous band called linea alba (cheek). Any other than this may need a closer look. Suggest you to meet an "Oral Medicine and Radiologist" or an "ORAL PATHOLOGIST".

This type of discoloration could be the result of number of factors and not necessarily be precancerous condition. There are few signs which you need to observe like has it changed its color or shape in recent days, is it changing the sensation of tissues around,is it on the cheek outside or inside surface or both, does the tooth touches that area while chewing or at rest etc...a thorough clinical examination with history is required. In case you happen to have any tobacco related habits then get a second opinion too and at the earliest. Be safe then sorry.
Next Steps
Look for a specialist dentist in his area/city. Specialist would have MDS in oral medicine and diagnosis.  (There are almost 9 specialty in dentistry and all MDS are not your condition specific as of now)
Health Tips
Don't mention Cancer...let the dentist decide. Sometimes dentists being a human has a one track mind and you mentioning the word might change his diagnosis.

Plz don't worry. As per your explanation it feels as if the discoloration you saw was of linea alba. which is a line on cheek. and there also can be discoloration it some history of trauma is there like cheek biting while eating etc. So, just observe the area and if something like difficulty in opening , burning sensation etc. Then get it checked by the dentist ( oral medicine and radiologist) once..
Next Steps
Just be calm and observe the area for few weeks.
