Exercising with an Umbilical Hernia
I am a 66 year old male, 174cm tall and weighing 87kg. I have a fairly prominent umbilical hernia, which was repaired via laproscopic surgery about 10 months ago. Unfortunately, the mesh on the UH broke after 6 months and I am on a long waiting list to rectify the repair. What is your advice regarding weight-training with hernias, specifically the abs, but also the possibility of exercising other muscle groups? Are there exercises I can perform that avoid excessive strain on the herniated area?
