Evening High Fever and Loss of Apetite
My mother is bed ridden and has been having loss of apetite for the last 5 days. Yesterday evening, she had a high fever of more than 102 °F coupled with shivering and darkened lips. She had liquid meal at night and coudn't take any solids. After that she took Dolo 500 tablet, subsequently her fever subsided and her lips returned to her normal colour. But she is still having loss of apetite. Kindly suggest what I need to do to help her get rid of this problem? Thank You.

Your mother’s symptoms suggest an underlying infection — likely urinary tract infection, pneumonia, or viral illness, which is common in bedridden elderly patients. The persistent loss of appetite could be due to weakness, dehydration, or an ongoing low-grade infection. Here’s what you should do immediately: 1. Ensure she’s well hydrated — give plenty of fluids like coconut water, soups, or ORS. 2. Start light, easy-to-digest meals (khichdi, dal water, curd rice). 3. Monitor temperature, urine output, and sensorium closely. 4. If fever or weakness persists beyond 24 hours, get basic tests done — CBC, urine routine, renal function, electrolytes. 5. You can also consider a vitamin-B complex syrup to help improve appetite once infection is ruled out. Elderly patients can deteriorate quickly, so it’s best to review her case in detail before deciding the next steps. You can message me personally on WhatsApp at eight-zero-zero-nine-eight-two-one-three-three-two for a full consultation and tailored treatment plan. Take care of her and don’t delay getting her examined.
