Doubt about HIV infection
I got cut in finger with a knife being used by my maid. She had used the knife about 8 to 9 hours before and then while cutting fruits my finger got cut with it. I started having an HIV fear and ended up getting her tested with 4th generation testing one week later. Her report was negative. But I still have a fear that if she would have the virus in any case which the test didn't pick and if I got infected with this incident. My 4th generation test result 26 days after this incident is negative. Do I need further testing ? Is there any risk ?

Based on the situation you have described, the risk of HIV transmission from this incident is extremely unlikely to the point of being negligible. HIV is a fragile virus that does not survive well outside the human body and does not remain infectious on environmental surfaces for prolonged periods. In your case, the knife had reportedly been used 8–9 hours earlier, and there is no description of a fresh blood-to-blood exposure immediately before your injury. Additionally, your maid's 4th-generation HIV test was negative, which is further reassuring. Your own 4th-generation HIV test at 26 days after the incident was also negative, which is a very encouraging result. Taken together, these factors strongly suggest that HIV infection from this event is not a realistic concern. The level of fear you are experiencing appears to be significantly greater than the actual risk posed by the exposure itself.
Next Steps
Try to avoid repeatedly analyzing the event or searching for rare transmission scenarios online, as this often increases anxiety without changing the medical facts. Based on the history you have provided, this does not resemble a typical HIV transmission exposure. If HIV-related fears continue despite reassuring information and negative test results, it may be helpful to address the anxiety itself rather than focusing solely on HIV. Health Tips
When dealing with anxiety-provoking health concerns, rely on established medical information rather than internet forums or anecdotal stories. Maintain a healthy routine with adequate sleep, exercise, and stress management, as anxiety can sometimes magnify perceived health risks. If you find yourself repeatedly seeking reassurance despite reassuring evidence, consider discussing these concerns with a healthcare professional who can help you address both the medical and emotional aspects of the situation. Based on the details provided, there is no indication of a significant HIV risk from the incident you described. Thank you
