Dog bite and rabies booster dose
Hi I have already received rabies vaccination of day 0,3,7,28 in April 2024. My friends pet dog bit me again today, there was no bleeding but the skin is scratched. I have attached the photo. Do I need to get vaccinated again?

• Wash the area with soap under running water. • Donot apply any ointment/cream. • Keep the area uncovered. • If there are minor scratches even without bleeding 2 booster doses are advisable (as per NRCP guidelines) as it is already 3months since your last completed schedule.

Since you completed a full rabies vaccination series in April 2024, your immune system is likely still well-protected. However, after a new potential exposure, guidelines typically recommend a booster dose of the rabies vaccine, especially if there was a scratch, even if it didn't bleed. You would generally need two additional booster doses, one on the day of the incident (Day 0) and another three days later (Day 3), to ensure continued protection. It's best to consult your healthcare provider to confirm the next steps based on your specific situation and the severity of the scratch. Also, monitor the dog for any unusual behavior, and report it to your doctor.
