Delayed speech
Hi my daughter is about 2 years old now but she does not speak much words although she knows how to speak those words. She prefers to communicate through shouting or crying. Her birth was a normal birth and all other progress is quite normal. She started walking at 10 months and her heigh and weight is normal. She says a few words like mama, nana, mummy, dada etc but only when we insists her. Shall we wait or it is a problem. I need a detailed reply instead of a customary answer - please consult speech therapist. Please help me

Rule of the thumb is 'if mother is concerned - it needs complete evaluation'.
Next Steps
What I would advise you, using least amount of words is that you should see either a developmental paediatrician or should consult a multi-speciality center where children with developmental delays and assessed.

Children's speech and language development follows a typical pattern. For example at first birth day the normal children speak at least one meaningful word, at the age of 2 years they should able to combined two words and at the age of 3years expected to speak in sentences .The deviation in such pattern is considered as delayed speech and language. Early professional help (Speech language therapy) can be very much effective for developing the communication skills and achieving academic goal among such children.

You have to consult speech language pathologist.Detail assessment  to be done by him & intervention will be planned based on assessment and domains of assessment. Mean time pls try to give her speech and language stimulation and try to expose her in talkative environment. Verbal exposure can play very important role in language stimulation.

Your daughter is having Delayed Speech and language It needs detailed evaluation to diagnose perfectly It needs to check Hearing evaluation and DQ evaluation to cause of DSL Please consult Speech therapist for evaluation
