Hi there.. TORCH is group of infectious organisms like Toxoplasmosis, Other Agents(syphilis, varicella, coxsackie),Rubella, Cytomegalovirus, herpes Simplex.. many of these are sexually transmitted diseases, others through other routes... these are infections which can be vertically transmitted ie from mother to baby leading to congenital infection, malformations, deformities in the baby, growth retardation of baby in utero, repeated abortions, in-utero baby death.. so before mother becomes pregnant she should be free from al these infections.. once it's completely treated then it doesn't pose any risk on baby.. but if these infections present when mother is pregnant then there is definitely harm to baby and the extent of damage to baby depends on the type of infection and at what month of pregnancy it's acquired.. hope this helped you..
