Complete tear of ACL never heals. At such a young age it definitely requires surgery. Although final decision depends upon the examination findings. Surgery is done with Arthroscopy- key hole surgery with very fast recovery. Get it done soon to prevent further damage to the invaluable joint and menisci.

In case of complete ACL  tear surgery is must. Physiotherapy and strength training can help but life would be very much restricted due to instability. Also chances are there that you can develop earlier knee arthritis problem then other if knee is left unstable. So go for surgery.

Avoid sitting Cross legged. Avoid Squatting- Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams Stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports Taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area Contrast Fomentation (Hot and Cold).

Ideally the ligament will need a reconstruction. There is hardly any chance that the ligament will heal by itself.
Next Steps
you can start walking with a knee brace
Health Tips
you have to wait for a month and review with a arthroscopic surgeon to reassess. meanwhile you can start doing quadriceps strengthening exercises to keep your knee feeling food.

Surgery is the best and only option.no need to worry about surgery.nowadays we do key hole(arthroscopic surgery) to reconstruct the ligaments.Minimal scar, less complications, less pain, shorter hospital stay and early return to work are the advantages of this surgery.Do get back ur normal knee at the earliest.

Hello there.  I can understand your concern.  Since there is a complete ACL tear and also grade 2 lateral collateral ligament damage, surgical trratment is the only option. Complete ACL tear will not heal by other means in my opinion. Consult a orthopedician in person for further evaluation and management. Best regards. Dr. Anil kumar jain. Bangalore.
