My mom diagnosed of colon cancer of colon @ rectal surgery doctor during operation with out biopsy.. it is correct to diagnosed the patient with out biospy? Plss help me

We need to know entire clinical presentation and history to comment about this..
Example ..patient presenrs with acute intestinal obstruction which needs emergency surgery..
Intraop we identify cause of obstruction..which could be even cancer
