Breakage of ACL and MCL
While playing I had  a nasty fall and injured my right knee.My medial collatrel ligament and anterior cruciate ligament were affected have been 22 days have passsed and my knee hurts upon moving and exercising. Is an MRI essential

Yes especially if you are a sports person. Although MCL can heal conservatively in a knee immobiliser but you may need ACL reconstruction if there is instability. This will be decided at 3-4 weeks post injury as clinical tests are possible then. You can do MRI to know exact knee status.
