Brain stroke
Hello Dr. My husband had brain stroke on 28th July 2016 and his right side got fully paralysed and not able to talk. Now in 2 n half months he is able to walk, his hand is little bit working, but still he had problem in speech. I want to know how long it takes him to recover in speech? Due to his speech problem he became very frustrated n angry all the time... Is he recovers completely as he is in his previous life?

Stroke as you know refers to damage to a part of the brain cells due to a problem ( bleed/ no blood going to that part of brain). These damaged brain cells don't have the ability to grow back . So, once the damage is done, it's done. The brain then slowly attempts to allot this work to the nearby cells and the leftover cells in that damaged area which are still working and the patient recovers. Maybe in 6 months to a year to a couple of years..but rarely back to the normal self. Aggressive physiotherapy and tlc with good home care is needed for these kind of patients apart from a few drugs which can enhance brain performance. Ideally speaking- ask your regular Consulting neurologist for a more expert opinion.

Hi...... The injury to the brain caused by a stroke can lead to widespread and long-lasting problems. Although some people may recover quite quickly, many people who have a stroke will need long-term support to help them manage any difficulties they have and regain as much independence as possible. This process of rehabilitation will be specific to you, and will depend on your symptoms and their severity.
