Hi, Botox is given to reduce the spasticity of muscles so that stretching exercise regimen can be implemented in a better way. The effect of botox usually last from 6 weeks to 6 months. Thereafter it may be needed to give repeat the dose depending upon the spasticity. The side effect is the sensitivity but its tested before injection. The doses given (calculated by weight) are too low to cause any systemic effects.
