Ideally you need 24 hour ambulatory bp monitoring done , to get your exact bp readings , one reading on the higher side is not significant . If you cant do a 24 hour test , i would suggest chart your bp 3 times a day for a week and follow up with results . Bp of 140/90 falls into grade 1 hypertension, but any one off reading at a clinic is misleading .

Please get your BP checked again after a gap of one week. Get it done preferably in the morning.

Dear patient, You're 29 years old and concerned about your blood pressure readings, usually below 140/90 mmHg. A doctor told you that “10 points up is normal nowadays.” Let me explain this clearly. ✅ What is Normal Blood Pressure? Ideal BP: Less than 120/80 mmHg Elevated BP: Systolic between 120–129 mmHg and diastolic less than 80 Hypertension Stage 1: 130–139 / 80–89 mmHg Hypertension Stage 2: 140/90 mmHg or higher So, a reading at or above 140/90 is not considered normal, especially if it happens regularly. 🔄 Can BP Vary by 10 Points? Yes, blood pressure can fluctuate due to: Stress (including “white coat” anxiety) Physical activity Caffeine intake Sleep deprivation or dehydration A one-time rise by 10 points may be normal, but it should not be ignored if it happens often. 🧪 What You Should Do: Home BP Monitoring: Use a digital BP monitor at home—record morning and evening readings for 7 days. Lifestyle Changes: Reduce salt and oily food Exercise regularly Avoid smoking/alcohol Manage stress Doctor Review: If your average BP stays above 130/80, consult your doctor for full evaluation. 💡 Is There Any Risk Now? Even mild, consistent elevation increases your long-term risk of heart and kidney problems. It’s good that you are tracking it early—most issues can be reversed with lifestyle correction if caught now. 📌 References (from uploaded books): Harrison’s Manual of Medicine, 20th Edition: Diagnostic criteria and classification of hypertension, risk implications, and recommended monitoring strategies. At your age, if b.p. goes high, get kidney function tests and lipid profile also done. Take salt restricted,  low fat and low sugar diet, with more of fresh green vegetables, fruits,  milk products,  fish. Avoid alcohol and tobacco use. Regular physical exercise will help you, but avoid weight lifting and pulling, I.e muscle building exercises. Share results of tests.
