Betnesol injection at 29 weeks pregnancy
Hi Doctor, We went to hospital due to low fetal movements during 29 weeks of pregnancy. Doctor checked and said heart rate is fine and advised to have steroids Betnesol injection every 24 hours for two days. When asked for side effects , she said nothing to worry and it is normal. We were tensed why they gave steroids and worrying abt side effects to baby if any? Kindly suggest your valuable inputs whether it is safe or any issues ? Thanks in advance

Hello.. It is recommended nowadays to give antenatal corticosteroid therapy ( betnesol) in all pregnancy where there is risk of preterm delivery or in cases of elective cesarean when it is done before 39 weeks of pregnancy.. Don’t worry it’s safe & prevents respiratory distress syndrome in baby along with necrotising colitis & intraventricular haemorrhage..
