Baby vigorous coughing
Hi Doc, i am a mother of a 1 year 3 months old baby girl. I had taken her for vaccination of OPV-4 IPV B1 & DTPW booster and HIB booster on June 13,2016.We also administered the oral polio drops the same day which accidentally went in for more than 2 drops. There was swelling on her thigh and slight fever for which we gave her Ibugesic plus. From the day of vaccination the child is cranky and coughs vigorously only while sleeping and during this coughing pukes out the food. We have followed up with the doctor but he said its nothing and has told us to not give any other medicines other than Ibugesic. We are very worried of what has happened to the child. Is everything fine or do we need to change the doctor?

Hello , I don't think the cough of your baby got anything to do with the vaccines given. Probably it could be a coincidental upper respiratory tract infection. Cough is a protective response of the body and we don't advise cough suppressants at this age. Your doctor has advised you rightly. If the cough is very severe such that it disturbs sleep or if fever is coexistent I would advise you to get a review with paediatrician . If the child is otherwise active , playing and eating well, you can wait.
