Most of the cold and cough in children is viral. Hence the no antibiotic policy . The paediatrician assesses your child and decides if they need antibiotics . This cough you talk about is called lingering cough which persists even after the viral fever has disappeared. If the child is eating well with good urine output and activity only symptomatic treatment will suffice . A detailed chest examination including auscultation is needed to decide on the symptomatic treatment needed .
Next Steps
Consult a pediatrician if the cough is distressing or associated with night cough and decreased activity and intake and urine output .
Health Tips
Always consult paediatricians before giving any medication .
