dry, flaky areolas can happen for a few reasons, and it’s good to pay attention to any changes. Common causes include: Possible causes: Dry skin or eczema — especially if you have a history of sensitive or dry skin elsewhere. Contact dermatitis — irritation from soaps, lotions, perfumes, or fabrics. Allergic reactions — to new body washes, laundry detergents, or nipple creams. Paget’s disease of the breast (rare) — if flaking, itching, or redness persists on one nipple with discharge or a lump underneath, this needs medical evaluation.
