What are the causes of postpartum depression

I am a 34 year old male and I recently became a dad to a lovely little girl. But, my wife has been acting quite strangely  for the past one week and she has developed dark circles and she is all tired and she doesn’t seem quite happy. When I looked up at these symptoms, I got to know about post partum depression. What causes post partum depression? I dearly love my wife and I want to take care of her. Can someone help me?

Hello Friend, Good that you are seeking a help here. Having understood that she is going through stress after delivery, why don't you take the next logical step by giving her a counseling support to cope with that stress. She needs to ventilate her feelings, emotions and concerns to a professional counselor, so that she can relieve or  express her emotional outburst. Then a suitable  and simple self help, self therapies, daily routines, excersise can be recommended to overcome this post partum problems. Suggest you to go for an online counseling which should be easy and convenient to  approach at this stage.
Next Steps
Feel free to reach out to me directly or online through Practo for further detailed evaluation and suitable recommendation. Be positive. She will be alright soon.

Postpartum Depression is a form of psychological condition which begins immediately after child birth. Herein a person experiences saddness of mood, no interest in any activity, worrying, overly anxious etc. It is caused due to hormonal imbalance. This imbalance causes mood swings in the mother. Postpartum depression and blues are seen after delivery in some. Risk factors are family history or past history of depression, sleep deprivation, poor support system along with many other such factors. Post partum blues are more common and improve with adequate rest, support and good sleep. Depression on the other hand has to be treated.
Next Steps
Consult psychiatrist online or in person
Health Tips
Get adequate help from her or your family Enough rest and sleep Supervision of both- mother and child might be required in some cases
