Triple marker test is a screening test of the mother's blood which mainly looks at AFP, hCG and estriol, the results are combined with the motherâs age, weight, ethnicity and gestation of pregnancy in order to assess probabilities of potential genetic disorders. The test is usually done between the 15th and 20th weeks of pregnancy but the best results are obtain between the 16th and 18th week as it is the most accurate. It is important to remember the triple test is a screening test and not a diagnostic test. This test only notes that a mother is at a possible risk of carrying a baby with a genetic disorder.
