Hello, I am Dr. Romain Rajan, General Physician. Your case has been allotted to me. I understand your concern. Stomach upset is a common side effect while taking Amoxyclav 625, especially when it irritates the stomach lining or affects gut bacteria. 1. Advices Always take Amoxyclav after a full meal and not on an empty stomach. Drink plenty of fluids and include curd or buttermilk in your meals to restore good gut bacteria. Avoid oily and spicy food till the stomach settles. 2. What to Monitor Frequency of loose motions or bloating. Any severe abdominal pain, vomiting, or new rash after taking the tablet. 3. Management If the stomach upset is mild, continue Amoxyclav but add Pantoprazole 40 mg once daily before breakfast for five days. Econorm sachet or Darolac capsule once daily for five days to restore gut flora. If the stomach discomfort becomes severe, stop Amoxyclav and shift to a milder antibiotic like Azithromycin 500 mg once daily for three days after food (only if throat infection persists). Do not take both antibiotics together. 4. When to Consult a Doctor Immediately Persistent vomiting or diarrhea. Abdominal pain or dehydration. Blood in stool or dark black stool. Every patient’s situation is unique. For accurate selection of antibiotic and safe recovery, it is important to discuss your symptoms and duration in detail. 👉 You can reach out to me directly for this case and also connect with me in future for any medical consultation. I am available on Practo or on WhatsApp at 85271646 seven seven for a one on one consultation, where you will receive • A personalized treatment plan • Safe medicine adjustment if required • Quick follow ups to ensure complete recovery Take care, wishing you good health. Best regards, Dr. Romain Rajan General Physician

Hi there, What you’re experiencing is a very common side effect of Amoxyclav (Amoxicillin + Clavulanic acid). The clavulanic acid component often causes gastritis, acidity, or loose stools, especially if the medicine is taken on an empty stomach. Here’s what you should do right now: 1. Always take Amoxyclav immediately after meals, not before — this reduces gastric irritation significantly. 2. Start a probiotic (like Econorm sachet 1 BD or Cap. Vizylac 1 BD for 5–7 days*) — this will help restore your gut flora. 3. For acidity or bloating, take: Tab. Pantoprazole 40 mg once daily, 30 min before breakfast, for 5 days. If you feel nausea or cramps, you can add Tab. Domperidone 10 mg along with it. 4. Stay hydrated — at least 2.5–3 litres of fluids per day. 5. Avoid spicy, oily food or caffeine while on antibiotics. If diarrhea becomes watery, foul-smelling, or you get abdominal pain or fever — stop Amoxyclav immediately and see your doctor. You might need a different antibiotic or stool evaluation (rarely, Clostridium difficile infection can occur). If your throat infection is mild or improving, it’s often possible to switch to a better-tolerated antibiotic or even stop antibiotics early if it’s viral — but this must be judged based on your symptoms and examination. I can check your exact case, review whether you still need Amoxyclav or can switch to a safer alternative, and guide you with a personalized prescription. You can reach me directly for a private consultation on WhatsApp at nine three two six zero two zero five three six — I’ll review your details and get you relief fast.

Amoxyclav can usually cause stomach upset in form of loose stools and abdominal pain in few patients. Pair it with Tab Sporolac DS thrice a day if symptoms are not very severe. If the stool frequency is high with severe stomach pain and bloating then need to consult doctor to rule out serious complication of medication and change the antibiotic.
