The polycystic ovarian syndrome may be primary or secondary. The secondary causes may be many but one is hyperprolactinemia. Also in 30% of patients with PCOD,serum
prolactin may be raised. So the diagnosis will depend on the level of prolactin and clinical symptoms of patient. In PCOD you have to do regular exercises and keep your weight in control so you should avoid high fat and simple carbohydrates. Cabergolin will treat the hyperprolactinemia due to the prolactinoma only, a pituitary gland tumour.
Next Steps
You should see the level of
prolactin if it is borderline raised and you don't have any symptoms then no need to treat it. But the levels are very high, then prolactinoms should be ruled out.
