That sounds incredibly hard for all of you, especially your mother. The mix of past brain injury, inherited suspicion, and refusal to seek help makes it even tougher.
Next Steps
Right now, focus on safety and calm communication. Avoid arguments when he’s suspicious, it can intensify his belief. Instead, keep responses short, gentle, and non-defensive. When he’s in a calmer moment, you could suggest seeing a doctor for his brain injury follow-up or sleep issues, rather than directly saying “psychiatrist,” which might make him resistant. A neurologist or family physician could then refer him discreetly to mental health care.
Health Tips
And don’t forget yourselves — you and your mother deserve support too. A counselor or psychologist can guide your family on how to handle these situations and protect your own mental health. You’re doing your best in a very painful situation.
