Occult blood, mucus and pus cells in 3mo
Hi, I am a first time mother. I first noticed streaks of blood (1-2) in my 2 month old exclusively breastfed son's stool. I went off dairy and soy. It improved for around 2 weeks but reappeared. reports show occult blood, mucus and pus cells (5-6hpf). It also shows rbc (1-2hpf). However, visible blood shows negative. Pediatrician prescribed taxim o for 5 days and redo the test. after 2 weeks the report was exactly same as before with occult blood, rbc, mucus and pus cell. We are due to meet gasto ped this weekend.
What could be the cause? Child looks normal, happy,gained 300gms in last 2 weeks(now 3.5 months old -4.8 kgs). pls help.
It is good that you have fixed an appointment with Pediatric gastroenterologist.. He/she will be the best person to explain in detail.
It could be rare diagnosis like Mekels diverticulum... Few scan and test will be needed to confirm. Final diagnosis can only be made after examination and tests done.
