A fissure occurs during to hard stool and straining due to constipation. To prevent reoccurrence of the same you need to change your lifestyle. The lifestyle modification that are needed are: - increased fiber in diet, they increase the bulk of the stool and soften the stool. That is increased fruits and vegetables. - increased water intake If you continue to have hard stool, there will be a recurrence of fissure. Right now you have been prescribed a stool softener. The day you stop it you are going to have hard stool unless you increase the fibre in your diet. It is not ideal to take medication for a long time, thus lifestyle modification is a must. The surgery was 50% of your treatment. The rest is on you to change your lifestyle.
Next Steps
Lifestyle modification.

You should have the stool softener for about 1 month. Slight pain for 2-3 weeks is ok. Else consult your operating surgeon.
Next Steps
please consult your operating surgeon.
