Am I depressed ?
Hello . I am a teenage girl , and I am concerned about my mental health and what is going on with me right now . I can't exactly if I am depressed or it's just a " phase " . I googled depression symptoms and I can very much relate to them only that I know my sleepy schedule and my weight is the same as before and nothing changed . But I am so very hopeless about my life , I can't see where I am going with anything . Everyday I just think whatever I do is useless and pointless. I must think of suicidal at least 3 times a week . I used to enjoy drawing but now even when I want to draw , it's hard to bring myself to draw as much as I want to . I feel so lonely and that everyone hates me and nobody cares about me .... it's killing me but I have to pretend everything is fine . I don't have friends and my relationship with my family has its own ups and downs . School is also not so great , as I have days I can't bring myself to study for an exam and then it ends up in me failing .

Yes, the symptoms you have described are those of depression. But it is controllable and treatable like any other disorder. There is nothing to feel ashamed about. Don't hide your feelings from your parents. Youu might have had problems with them and the only way to resolve it is to communicate with them and consult a Psychiatrist.

Hi there! Dear it is really good that even being a teenage girl you are able to understand the importance of your mental health and able to express your problems so well. Yes definitely what you describe fits into depression and there is no age for depression as such, so that might exactly be the case with you, however you need to consult a psychiatrist to confirm the diagnosis. Firstly i’d advice you to not hide your true emotions from your family or friends and share with them exactly how you feel, never attempt suicide, try talking to people around you. Experts like us are always there to help you, there are helpline numbers as well. So before you even think of taking any wrong step, consider reaching out for help. Depression or just a ‘phase’ as you may call it, is not permanent, things do improve, but at times not everything is in our hands and it is not a bad idea to consider seeking help for good.

Depression can be controlled with medicines and counselling. However a definite diagnosis can be made only on a detailed consultation with psychiatrist.
