Yes surgery is the best management option as per the mri report. With latest techniques you can bear full weight and do range of motion exercises the next day itself with the help of brace.

Hi Dhivya G, Surgery is a good option in ACL complete tears. But it is not a compulsion. Let's say you don't get surgery done. Like a few patients i know. Few things can happen. Either your ligament will not heal at all, then after a few months of recovery phase your swelling will start to reduce and you may start walking. What you could notice is that your knee isn't stable. And you don't have confidence in running or climbing stairs. You may be able to do it still but with difficulty. In an unstable knee, because of random grinding movements the cushion inside your knee will get scrubbed off slowly and may lead to early joint pains, which normally may happen at 60 age, may come at 35-40. These are all possibilities and nothing is guaranteed. You might not have all these and get good recovery without need for surgery... Low chance but yes there is a chance. Partial healing is also likely where your knee will go back to normal functioning and you may not feel those instability etc , but your mri may show these partial tears etc. What you do need to do now. Is not to decide about surgery. That can wait ... You can get it after 6 months or next year too. You need to protect your knee right now from further damage by using a long knee brace if you walk. If not stay in bed and use a walker.
Next Steps
hope this helps. take vitamin d injection and healing can happen faster.

Hello You do have a complete Acl tear and as per the report your meniscus seems ok which is good to know.
Next Steps
Since you have swelling it will be wise to wait for the swelling to subside. Acl surgery is not an emergency so you can delay the surgery till a comfortable time.
Health Tips
But please be warned other complications can arise. Kindly consult for detailed evaluation and advice
