Whether you undergo ACL surgery or not, exercise is the key. There are even athletes without ACL performing well. So it's the proper knee rehabilitation which is the magic. But if you have associated meniscus or cartilage lesions it's better you undergo arthroscopy. Postop recovery depends whether we are repairing meniscus or cartilage. Usual time to become normal is 4-6 weeks.

Hello,
As per your history you have significant instability which suggest you have a ligament tear in your knee mostly ACL tear. This can be treated by arthroscopic surgery and as a specialist surgeon in Sports medicine, I would recommend you to think of the ACL reconstruction procedure to prevent further degeneration.
The surgery has good success rates and it is possible to get back to normal with proper rehab.
