ACL Injury
I had a full ACL tear in Feb 2014 for which I had undergone reconstruction surgery in Jan 2015(hamstring graft). It has been 2 years since but I have been unable to recover fully from it. I was very active in sports before the Injury and had started playing again post 7-8 months after the reconstruction albeit very carefully. I twisted my knee a little bit while playing again and my knee has never been the same. I sometimes run and now even my hip is starting to hurt a bit. I have read numerous literature on ACL and the difficulty in recovering from a second ACL surgery. Will I be able to ever return to sports after such poor results?

Avoid sitting Cross legged. Avoid Squatting- Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams Stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports Taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area Contrast Fomentation (Hot and Cold).

Hello, Yes. It is true. Success outcome of Revision Reconstruction ACL surgery is poor. First of all you must do a MRI to assess the damage of your graft and to rule out associated meniscus and chondral (cartilage) injury. Lot of factors needs be consider before giving you a opinion.... 1.What sport do you play? 2. Are you a week end warrior? Or professional player? 2.Which position are you playing? 3.Which level are you playing? 4.Do you do long distance running? 5. What is your current weight?
Next Steps
Stop playing sports. You should do pool exercises / cycle for fitness. After MRI consult a Surgeon for a second opinion. Consult a Sports physiotherapist for progressive rehab.
Health Tips
Poorly rehabilitated, Over strained ACL operated knee joint will develop osteoarthritis as a complication.

Hi Recovering is still possible. A good and gradual rehab plan is needed depending on your present status. A good quality minimally restrictive brace while doing intense cardio or re reational sports should help. Hip and trunk strengthening is extremely important. You need to meet a skillful sports physiotherapist.
